Acceptable use

An email address is a loaded instrument. These are the rules for carrying one.

Last updated September 2026

This policy exists for a practical reason as much as an ethical one: mail servers live and die by reputation. One account sending spam degrades delivery for every other person on the domain. So we enforce this seriously.

Never

  • Spam. No unsolicited bulk mail, no purchased lists, no scraped addresses.
  • Phishing or fraud. No impersonating a bank, a service, a colleague or anyone else to extract credentials, money or data.
  • Impersonation. Do not claim or use a name to pose as a real person, company or institution you are not.
  • Malware. No distributing viruses, ransomware, or malicious attachments and links.
  • Harassment. No threats, stalking, targeted abuse, or coordinated pile-ons.
  • Illegal content. No child sexual abuse material, no content facilitating terrorism, no trafficking. CSAM is reported to NCMEC and law enforcement without exception.
  • Attacking infrastructure. No using our service to scan, flood or exploit any system, ours or anyone else's.
  • Evading enforcement. No creating new accounts to get around a suspension.

Bulk and marketing mail

CityBoyMail is a personal email identity service, not a bulk sender. If you need to send marketing campaigns, use a dedicated provider built for it — they handle consent tracking, unsubscribe handling and list hygiene properly, and everyone ends up better off.

Legitimate personal and business correspondence is obviously fine. The line is unsolicited bulk, not volume in itself.

Name squatting

Names are for using, not for hoarding. The following are violations:

  • Creating multiple accounts to accumulate names.
  • Claiming names with the intent to resell them outside CityBoyMail.
  • Automated or scripted claiming.
  • Claiming names matching a trademark you do not hold, or a real person you are not.

We rate-limit claims, cap addresses per plan, and review patterns that look like accumulation.

How we enforce

Depending on severity, we may warn you, suspend outbound sending, suspend the account, release a name, or close the account. Active phishing, CSAM and malware distribution get immediate action with no warning.

We keep records of enforcement decisions so they can be reviewed, and you can appeal any of them at appeals@cityboymail.com.

Reporting

If you have received abusive mail from a @cityboymail.com address, report it at cityboymail.com/abuse or email abuse@cityboymail.com. Include the full message headers if you can — without them we often cannot identify the sender.

We monitor abuse@ and postmaster@ as required of any responsible mail operator, and those addresses are permanently reserved.
